Julije Knifer

Muzej likovnih umjetnosti Osijek

Julije Knifer, a timeless artist with roots in Osijek, wove his entire life into art, as evidenced by this large and imposing exhibition of exceptional, worldwide significance. His roots stretch from Osijek, where he was born and lived, all the way to Paris, where he settled and continued to create. On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, his daughter Ana Knifer, together with Valentina Radoš, serves as both author and curator of this exhibition.

The exhibition is a production of the Museum of Fine Arts in Osijek. The works on display are part of his estate, and a large portion of them have never been publicly exhibited before. What paper meant to Knifer, what freedom was to him, and how the title of this exhibition came about are all explored in the catalogue through texts by specialists who have studied his life and work for many years.
