Bernard Piffaretti : Pour finir encore
Past exhibition
Overview
Following Bande-annonce and Montage in 2011, Re-marquable in 2014, Passage (à la ligne) in 2016, and Acteur in 2020, galerie frank elbaz is delighted to present its 6th solo-exhibition of Bernard Piffaretti’s works. The title Pour finir encore [For to End Yet Again] borrowed from Samuel Beckett's universe, refers to the protocol inscribed within the painting itself.
Starting, restarting, focusing on a point of origin—these notions have often been commented on in critical analyses of Bernard Piffaretti’s work.
"To end (end twice?)" has received fewer answers. The notion of the "unfinished oeuvre" as an open work, is one response. We find ourselves in a state of anticipation, with the resumption always postponed.
For to End Yet Again playfully traces the contours of current events. A paused moment in the exhibition rekindles the history of Bernard Piffaretti’s artistic journey, ongoing since the early 1980s. Painting after painting, recounting doesn't say anything of the experience.
On this occasion, a "byproduct" in the form of a notebook is offered—an uncommon occurrence—by Bernard Piffaretti to the galleries that showcase his work. This passing of the baton from 1980 to 2024 gives these galleries all the cards they need to lead the dance: "For to end yet again."
